Howie Swaim of Armfield, Miller and Ripley said that he hasn’t dealt with any of the foreclosed properties in the county, that his buyers are more upscale and that since the beginning of the year he’s “seen a definite pick up in business.”
“I’m feeling optimistic,” said Swaim, “a lot of buyers were on the sidelines” as the economic news seemed to grow worse each day, but now these buyers are out and looking. He did note, however, that about 65 percent of the properties on the market nationwide were “distressed properties” or properties in or near foreclosure.
In Sperryville, Martin Woodard of Roy Wheeler Realty Company, said he hadn’t dealt with any foreclosure properties either. Martin said he thought there were about a “dozen or so” but that these properties typically weren’t in the more desirable categories.
