our core beliefs. This is patently wrong. I am tolerant. I have no problem with your believing whatever you wish to believe. 1 do not think any less of you as a human being. That is what tolerance is. Tolerance does not mean I have to agree that your beliefs are on an equal basis with mine. That would be to ask me to give up my belief in order for me to be tolerant of yours. That request is, by definition, intolerance.
Mr. Pagano’s letter last week calls for tolerance, yet it was one of the most intolerant letters I’ve ever read.
