A true champion for our children
As a strategic services specialist, Julie Whisler not only works with the results from our patient satisfaction surveys, she also manages several components of our VIPeds children’s program. As a VIPeds committee member, Julie does a lot to brighten the spirits of our youngest patients.
"We now provide small toys and colorful place mats lor our children’s meal tray program,’’ Julie explains. “For example, one place mat has a road and we provide little cars for them to drive around die place mat.”
Julie also manages our teen Car Control Clinics; conducts hospital tours for children’s groups; and manages the annual VIPeds medical camp, which exposes children to interesting hands-on career activities. (Popular favorites among the kids include suturing chicken legs, typing their own blood, mixing expired medicines, and intubating mannequins.)
"It’s always interesting to see things from a different perspective, and the children are so excited,” Julie says. "We have a preschool class that donates bears; they raise money, buy fabric, cut out shapes, then sew and stuff the bears. When they bring them in, they’re so proud. It’s adorable.’’
