read with interest the -IfLetter to the Editor that Jan Clatterbuck wrote in the Jan. 22 edition of the Rappahannock News entitled, “An assignment that changed my life.”

When I read the article the first time through, I had to do a double take, because I thought perhaps I was reading a letter dated for January 1949, rather than January 2009. So, I reread the article and thought I needed to write a brief response.

After some reflection, I really began to appreciate Ms. Clatterbuck’s openness and honesty concerning how the opportunity to attend the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Birthday Observance, for the first time in the 18-year history of the program in the county, affected her in such a positive way.
