Rappahannock County residents opened their wallets to candidates for state and local office in 2009 to the tune of more than $35,000.
According to the latest Virginia State Board of Elections’ campaign finance disclosure forms, required to he filed by candidates across the state Oct 15 for income and expenses through Sept. 30, Rappahannock residents spent more on Democrats ($18,548) than Republican candidates for state office ($13,600).
The rest of the $35,204 donated by county residents — $3,056 — was spent on Board of Supervisors' candidates.
For the supervisors’ election, a nonpartisan race made somewhat more controversial this year by partisan endorsements, the candidates together collected $4,056 — but only the $3,056 came from local supporters. Another $1,000 in support for candidates Terry7 Dixon and Tom Junk, who received $500 each, came from the 7th District
