Chimp Haven's board of directors, emphasizes that the sanctuary exists as a way to give back some form of peace and freedom to chimps who gave so much of their lives to medical science for the betterment of humans.
Simply allowing them to choose whether they want to be inside or outside, with the group or alone is a huge change, and improvement, for intelligent animals who spent years unable to chose literally anything about their lives, Brent said.
Allen has been involved with Chimp Haven for 10 years and has long w orked with animals. She worked with the American Zoo and Aquatic Association, helped raise a gorilla and orangutans for another organization, and serves on the advisory board for Disney’s Animal Kingdom theme park in Florida.
