The theme was designed to connect the contest to the school system’s “Go Green Virginia” project, a Virginia School Board Association challenge that recognizes recycling and other environmental efforts that reduce the school system’s and surrounding community’s carbon footprint, said Assistant Superintendent Becky Greer. With husband George Greer, the assistant superintendent has sponsored the card contest in the schools for the past three years.
After Rosenblatt brought in the pictures for the students to study, the art classes discussed the buildings, trees, plants, mountains, roads, fences and sky. Then students practiced blending colors with color pencils, selecting one photo to begin drawing from.
At the Virginia School Board Association’s annual conference Nov. 17, Rappahannock County Public Schools officially met the requirements of the “Go Green, Virginia” Challenge for its efforts in recycling and in raising and serving local and sustainable farm products.
