There's nothing half so pleas ant. as coming home again, njtarly 300 Longwood College alumnae found Saturday as the 2's and 7's had their reunions at the |73rd Founder's Day. The Jarman cup for the best attendance went to the gulden anniversary of the class of 1907. which had 55 percent of its Li liv* ing members on hand. The 35 h anniversary class of 1925 was on the program, with Miss Mary Douglas Finch making the Foun der's day address, and the classes from the 2 and 7 years held spe cial reunions. Alumni heard Miss Finch: de scribe her years of teaching in Kobe and Hiroshima. Japan, f and Dr. Fiances G. Lankford deliver a state of the college addiesss. They also dedicated a parlor at the alumnae house, and elt cted officers. President's Appeal ' Longwood's greatest need now is faculty housing," Dr. Lankford told the alumnae. He stressed the importance of .such housing facili ties in obtaining top flight faculty members. The Univeristy of Virginia 1 has constructed a faculty village land Hampden-Sydney College is con sidering plans for facility biiiiid inun. No state funds arc available for such buildings, according to Dr. Lankford. He the alumnae adopt faculty hous ing as their next project. lie outlined a plan whereby al umnae would contribute $5.0 SO a year toward such a building pro gram. The alumnae association's big prop ct lias been the renovation and furnishing of the alumnae house. Cost of the project is ex pected to top $20,000 before t is completed. Parlor Dedicated A parlor in the alumnae hduse. furnished by relatives of jvliss Minnie Vaughn Hice, was deci: ai ed Saturday morning. Taking part in the ceremony were Mrs Pollard English, a l iec-e ol Miss Rice, and her family, of Richmond. Dr T M. Simpson, retired dean of Randolph-Macon College in Ashland was the speak er. Mrs. Francis Simkins of Fann \iile. accepted the donation on b< half of the alumnae assoc;, (ion. and Dr Lankford accepted ori be half of the college. At the business meeting oil the association on Saturday afternoon. Miss Elsie Stossel. of Richmjond. was named the new president. Memorials Planned Announcement as made of ijlans to have a portrait of Mrs. Ruth 11 Covner painted for the alurjinae house. Mrs. Covner. who retired last year, supervised Longtvood students practice teaching atj the Farmville Elementary School and served as alumnae secretary lor 18 years. A library is to be established at. the alumnae house in honor of Miss Mac. Clay Hiner, retired Longwood English professor.\ who taught at Longwood for 30 yjears.
