REPUBLICAN State Sehator Ted Dalton set the stage Saturday for the guberna torial campaign in which we expect him to be in the months just a lead. Though he disavows his intention to carry the Repub lican gubernatorial banner he certainly is placing himself in a position to be its can didate,' which he can be by merely saying the word. His statements before the Republican Central Committee were nothing new, ex cept that he took occasion to oppose the principle of “massive resistance” renewed last week by U. S. Senator Harry F. Byrd. Mr. Dalton is not out of character in this. He opposed the interposition resolution, in the regular session and the Governor’s school program in the special session. He maintains that Virginia j can accept the principle of non-segregatjon laid down by the U. S. Supreme Court, and then “keep white schools white under law and order but keep the public schools.’’ Just how this will be done has not been detailed by Sen ator Dalton, nor by anyone else. It is a slogan of several other Virginia politicians, some Democrats, who overlook the import ant governmental principles of usurpation of power by the Federal Cjourts, and the in effective experience of hther states and cities — Washington, D.
