Mis, E. F. Yates, Mrs. W. R. Parker and Mrs. Johnson were judges in the elimination contest for the final try-out. Mrs. J. S. Caldwell has been with a cold, but is better and able to be out again. The Women of the Church of Providence Presbyterian c h u r c h held a meeting in the home of Mrs. Roy Nicholls. The program subject dealt with Christian citizenship and women in business and how busi ness ethics cannot be separated from our relationship with God. Powhatan circle met with Mrs. J. S. Caldwell Bible study was con ducted by Mrs. Robert Cosby. The meeting was presided over by the chairman. Mrs. W. R. Parker. Several Presbyterian women went to Burkeville to a meeting of the District Women of the Presbyterian church last week. Jesse C Green. Jr,, son, of Mr and Mrs. J C. Green, of Powhatan, has attained an unusual and envi able record in his four-year slay at the University of Virginia. Each term he lias made dean's list. He made the Raven Society and kept up with other extracurricular activi ties. He is a young man known to have a remarkable ability as a speaker, has spoken several times at this home church. May Memorial Baptist, and preached once. All are happy to know that he will conduct the Easter services at his church. The congregation is uplifted by his true Christian spirit. The future seems most promising for this tal ented young man from Powhatan. Mr. and Mrs. H. H. Ferrell, of Goochland, were in the village Thursday.
