' Destroyed By Fire
The Rappahannock Volunteer Fire Department was called out on Christmas morning at 7:30 to extinguish a fire which broke out at the Wood Burke residence, lo^ cated across the highway from'" W. B, Jenkins’ Service Ration in Washington. The property is owned by Mr. Jenkins.
All of the personal ✓ property of the Burke family was destroyed by the fire. The interior of the house was badly damaged and practically all that was left was the shell of the dwelling*.
It is reported that Mrs. Burke got up early Christmas morning ‘ to prepare Mr. Burke’s breakfast before he left for the American Viscose Corporation in Front Royal, Mrs. Burke returned to ’ bed and was awakened by the odor of smoke. She just^managed . to get the children ou^-and save her own -life. Everythifip the family possessed was lost in the fire.
Mr. and Mrs. Burke and their two children, Elaine, aged 8, and Dickie, 4, are spending this week « at the home of Mrs. Burke’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Bennnett, in Front Royal.
Of course, everybody wants to help when trouble hits a neighbor, and many folks have already started, but perhaps one of the nicest exhibitions was that of the youngsters sharing their brandnew Christmas toys with the two Burke children after the fire.
