Rat Poisoning Time
Rats which eat millions of* dollars worth of feed annually, can be controlled effectively from now through April by poisoning, says John Amos, entomologist at VPI.
He explains that during the cooler months rats have migrated to basements and outbuildings of farms and homes. Farmers can contact county agents for information on the most satisfactory poisons and bow to use them.
Feed losses to rats, he said, can be figured with considerable accuracy.
For example, on an experimental poultry farm records show rats destroyed at least $25 worth of feed par 100 laying —birds—where—pens—were—not ratproofed. In another instance, a 100-pound bag of feed mash was dumped by mistake into an automatic hopper in a pen from which the birds had been removed.
