December has been a ’ Veryfavorable month for plowing land for the 1950 corn crop. Many Rappahannock county farmers have taken advantage of the weather and are well advanced with their plowing. Soil Conservation Service technicians working in co-operation with the Culpeper Soil Conservation District have assisted a number of the farmers*in establishing their rotations in contour strips on sloping fields. Experimental'-evidence and testimony from farmers the country over proves - that yields have increased from 15 to 35%' as a result of establishing their rotations in contour strips. 7. .Av»*V J&gex* \€asttefc©a;**'** 5 tferesT"*'aT 15 acres; and Mrs, Faiinie P. Eastham, Flint Hill, 26 f acres, have established contour strips on sloping fields in Rappahannock’ county.
Rochester Ropes, Inc., has completed construction of a.6acre farm pond in front of their office building and factory, Ideated approximately a mile east of Culpeper. ,W. L. Rochester an asset in case of fire at the stated that “the pond would be factory as well ajj lend a great deal to the aesthetic value of the' pounds.” TJjje pond was constructed in co-operation with the Culpeper Soil Conservation District, the work being accomplished by equipment owned and operated by a local contractor.
