Dr. Robert Hummel, an official of the state council of farmer cooperatives in Wurttemberg, Stuttgart, Germany, arrived in Sperry^ville Thursday and his^igstlwalr not in connection with the tour of the French gentlemen—the two interpreters were ladies. Dr. Hummel spent two days studying the agricultural credit problems and agricultural co-operatives in the county.
The group visited the Rappahannock Fruit Growers Co-op on. Friday, including the packing house, the juice plant, and the cold storage plant, and continue4 their study at the Washington Coop.. Fruit Growers packing house after lunch.
At Sperryville the Frenchmen seemed most interested in the cold storage plant, for with this phase of preserving they were not familiar. They have co-operatives in France, though not exactly like the ones in the United States. Several of the visiting Frenchmen borrowed coats and examined the refrigeration systems carefully, but some of the others did not appear to relish the extreme cold.
One of the interpreters stated that she, too, was a fruit grower, raising oranges in North Africa. She said that most of her orchard products were shipped to Europe but little of it to England, due to the expense of transportation.
C. E. Johnson, Jr., and Lucio Kilby were on hand for the visit and showed the gentlemen around. A few of the Frenchmen could speak a little English, but most of the conversation had to be done through the interpreters.
L. R. Hudson Re-elected
Insurance President
L. R. Hudson of Slate Mills was re-elected president of the Rappahannock Home Mutual Fire Insurance Company at the annual meeting Saturday, September 9, at the Courthouse in Washington.

E. M. Jones was elected chairman of the meeting and C. J. Mil-* ler, Jr., secretary read the minutes of the prior meeting and gave the statement of collections and disbursements, dated September 1, 1949 to September 1, 1950. The balance showed $30,008.33.
Directors named were L. R. Hudson, Robert L. Brown, Wade H. M/issie, Jr., R. L. Miller, C. E. Johnson, Jr., (B. R. Miller, and J. P. Cook.
