Criticism of Marines
Embarrassing
We, as a people, are embarrassed at the conduct of the President of the United States regarding h i s “unfortunate use of words" in his opinion of the “Navy. Police Force.”
Since he is our President, we feel we have a right to expect from his position dignity in conduct and in language.
His apology was accepted, of course. The Marines are gentlemen, as well as a fine bunch of fighting men.
There should never have been any reason for the apology. The whole affair was inexcusable.
Some months back the President emplpyed another “unfortunate use of words” in designating the maternal parentage of a newspaper columnist To the kennel. The President's infamous “s-o-b" quote did-not harm the columnist, -iwlr't^r" Tkpnrritrair'people’^imd right to be indignant.
