’Forest Training This Year
Keep Virginia Green forestry training has been completed during the month of October in Rappahannock county’s high school at Washington, Chief Forest Warden Raymond M. Johnson stated today.
Approximately 45 boys received forestry training this year. This short forestry training course consisted of forest fire prevention, forest fire suppression and forest management.
Warden Johnson Said that this is an annual fall event, training of KVG crews for emergency forest fire suppression crews. Since the boys also showed a great interest in the forest of the county and state, along iwith fire fighting they received general forestry training in reforestation, proper cutting practices, and timber estimating.
Assisting in training of KVG crews this year was forester Caleb M. Pennoclj, Jr., of Warrenton. Forester Pennock handled the management training and other general forestry work such as rev. forestation. , Acknowledgement of the fine co-operation given the Virginia Forest Service in this training Bhould go to the high school principal and other school authorities, stated Mr. Johnson. He also reminds the citizens of the county to remember that we are approaching our fall forest fire season and to take all precautions - when conditions are such that a forest fire will burn.
