Opens Festival Season

The Blue Ridge Music Center, Rappahannock county, summer home of the Virginia Symphony Orchestra, is proud to present William Haaker hi a piano recital this Sunday afternoon, July 29, at 4:30 p.m. Mr. Haaker, one of the foremost of American pianists of this country, plans to present a varied program including works by Handel, Debussy, Liszt, and Chopin. _

Avon Mills, »n a cool, iwellshaded amphitheatre, is the permanent summer home of the Virginia Symphony Orchestra. Avon Mills promised to be the vortex of all cultural activities in Virginia and the south. To build a project of such importance, support, interest-, co-operation, and enthusiasm of the community are ail needed.

William Haaker wins the hearts of his audience and receives that sort of applause that goes to genuine artists. “A vital musical personality with a practical inexhaustible driving energy” was carried in a Texas newspaper following an appearance there.

A few of the selections to be included in his program -will be .Moonlight Sonata, Beethoven; Gardens in the Rain, Debussy; Etude in E Major, Chopin; and Forest Murmurings of Liszt.
