James Walker Leake
Funeral services for James Walker Leake, retired farmer of Boston, who died Tuesday, July 17, at University hospital after a brief illnes, were held Friday afternoon from Mt. Lebanon Baptist church of which he was a member. The Rev. S. Felton Carter and Rev. Cecil Carder conducted the last rites. Interment was in Fairview cemetery, Culpeper.
Mr. Leake, 75, was the son of the late John Walker Leake and - Mrs. Margaret Ann Leake, of Rappahannock county. ~~ Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Clifford Leake, of Culpeper; Miss Louise Leake of Boston; Mr*. Maude-Miller, of Woodville; three sons, James Preston Leake, of Castleton; John William Leake, and Robert Leake, of Boston; one sister, Miss Mary Travis Leake, of Woodville; one brother, William Albert Leake, of Culpeper, and a number of grandchildren.
Active pallbearers were Weldon Burke, Brown Miller, John Shaffer, Andrew Miller, B. H. Wayland, Mason Green, Raymond Johnson, and Robert Jenkins.
Honorary pallbearers were Joe Johnson, John Deal, Amos Butler, H. L. Hitt, James Dillinger, H. G. Wayland, Ellis H. Jenkins, C. H. Hitt, Harrison Jenkins, Woodronr Coughlin, Tutt Hume, Shelton Grimsley, Robert Fincham, Clarence Johnson, Jessie Smith, Daniel Coughlin, Wade Jenkins, W. T. Beale, Charles Hawkins, and others.
Planes Spray for Beetles
Planes have been flying low about the county recently spraying DDT for the Japanese beetle and BBB for rathane roll leaf on the apple orchards.
Those in the county so far having their corn fields, orchards, and land sprayed are: Flint Hill— R. B. Rust, Nelson Atkips, Elmore Atkins, Russell Sutphin, Wood Brothers, Clarence Jones, and Roll md Welch; Amispville—Cletus Prints, W. G. Eastham, and J. E. Settle; Washington — Wade H. Massie, III; Sperryville — Eddie Gore. G. W. Smith, Jr., of Flint Hill, and J. W. Keyser of Front Royal expect to have their land treated toy the Valley Air Force this week.
This is an opportunity for all farmers to have their land treated and protect crops. Agents for the Valley Air Force in Rappahannock are Wood Brothers of Flint Hill.
