The Flint Hill Methodist church entertained the children of the Sunday school at a picnic Saturday, July 21, at Elizabeth Furnice,''Powell's Fort Valley. About 140 were in attendance. Games of all kinds were played. There was plenty of fried chicken with all Ithe trimmings. Those attending: reported, they had a wonderful time.

Members of the Sperryville Methodist church school went to iShulers resort on the Shenandoah river, near Luray, for their annual outing and picnic dinner last Saturday, July 14. The Sunday school of the Reynolds Memorial Baptist church held their annual picnic at the Shuler resort, Saturday, Jujy 21. Both picnics being largely attended , and greatly enjoyed. ®

It was birthday good wishes July 15 for Mrs. George Barnett, regal widow of Gen. Barnett, com. mandant of the U.S. Marine Corps, during World War I. Mrs. Barnett is spending the summer at her estate “Wakefield Manor”, at Huntly. On hand to wish her happy birthday and do her honors were members of her family and a few close friends. It will be remembered by the people in Rappahannock when Wallis Warfield, now the Duchess of Windsor, would visit her aunt Mrs. Barnett at Wakefield, and the wonderful dances and parties were held in her honor. Clyde Beggarly, going through some old papers since coming to make his home at Avon Hall, ran across an old dance score showing he had had ithe pleasure of dancing with the Duchess at one of the parties held by Mrs. Barnett, along with the other young men of the bounty. Jack Miller and the late John Kinsey were among the young men in Rappahannock who would take Mrs. Barnett’s charming niece for buggy rides on hot summer afternoons.
