< Rappahannock County has been allotted $37,643.00 under the 1052 Agricultural Conservation Program, it was announced yesterday by H. S. Barksdale County Com. mittee Chairman of the Production and Marketing Administration.
That figure compares with $42,500.00 received by the county for ACP conservation in 1051. The difference is due to a slight reduction in the National and State funds for ACP as appygrad by tile lastCoi

basis, Mr. Barksdale explained. Individual farmers will put up any where from 40 to 00 per cent of the cost of practices carried out.
But, unlike other years, the 1058 ACP program will require that farmers obtain approval from IPMA County Committees for carrying out practices for which they expect program assistance.
“PMA committeemen will tailor the' practices requested by each farmer to those needs considered to be most urgent on his farm and those which will contribute to the long range conservation and production objectives,” the County PMA chairman said. “If they expect to receive conservation program payments, they twill be permitted to carry out only such practices as they have designated when they sign up to participate in the program.”
By thus “pin-pointing” the spending of conservation program funds, Barksdale said that PMA hopes to keep soil productively abrest of defense production.
“PMA will have a double job in 1952,” he declared. “We must not only maintain and impipove our soils in spite of heavy cropping for defense, but we must also assure the food and fiber that stepped-up military and defense activity will require."
