Mrs. Gibbons was born in Rappahannock county, where she spent her childhood days and young womanhood. During her adolescence years she dedicated her ambition to music and attended The Convent of Visitation, and later continued and completed her course at Synodical College, in which college she taught music for two years. She was indeed a skilled musician, with an understanding and love of music and she so expressed herself in writing “Music is indeed the language of the soul—it can carry one to the heights of bliss, or the depths of despair”. For her it was the “heights of bliss”, as no despair disturbed her days or despondency distressed her nights. She gave her talent and her music as a gratuitous contribution to the many that she loved.

Haying passed her four score years, during that period of life when memory brightens as the twilight darkens, she became the author of “My Book of Memories” containing a resume of those days that wer?. Her thoughts returned to her girlhood hours and her life in the home of her parents, “Hawthorne”, in her native county. * She loved this old colonial home which she described so beautifully, as being “In the midst of a grov.' of oak trees, almost hidden by the dense foliage, stood a white stone house with green trimmings, and was reached through an avenue of cherry trees, in season hanging heavy with crimson fruit. Hawthorn was a magic spot, holding forth with charm for the young, and old alike”. She continues “Many an evening have I lingered on those steps, while shadows draped in silvery gauze from the moonlight, played at hide-and* seek, and the trees whispered of a far-aiway world where dreams come true, and the moon with roguish smile sifted moonbeams along the way”. --
