«... And No Place To Go”

An old saying told of the fellow who was “all dressed up and no place to go.”

There are a few folks in a similar position today. They are average Americans, little guys, with their taxes paid, and registration in proper order, and they’ve no one to vote for.

Some of us hold blank faces when all this political discussion begins. We are conscientious citizens; we take an interest in our government. We are honest, law-abiding folks; we try to earn a living and live fair and square with our fellowmen. We try to do our duty toward our country, our state, and our county, by voting for what we think is best for all citizens. ~

The time is drawing closer when we must cast a ballot for a President, and we have no candidate for . whom we can vote with a cldar conscience.

We owe no party anything. The National Democratic party has plainly shown us what they think of the south in general, and Virginia in particular. Our delegates we sent to Chicago were treated as something far removed from the gentlemen they acted. Our Senator has been belittled by the leader of the Democratic party, and his constant efforts toward good government were made light of with such remarks as “too many Byrds in the Senate.” With a small edition of a volume near the size of the unabridged dictionary, we could cite other instances that show the National Democratic organization has used us for a good foot mat.

Most of us in Virginia are of the opinion that loyalty needs more than its own reward, and we feel no obligation whatsoever to this presentday so-called Democratic party.

It is nigh unto impossible to elicit enthusiasm for the Republican party. They’ve been out of power so long that most of us cannot imagine what they would do. We can recall the former Republican administration that must surely be termed a failure. How do we know that they can do
