Soil Saver Notes
The W. Arhur Kite and Sons farm, located one and one half miles north of Culpper on the Rixeyville Road, will be the scene of an interesting farm equipment demonstration, on Thursday, December 11 from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Contour plowing with a two-way plow, regular slat moldboard plow and with a disk plow will be demonstrated on contour strips. The use of a tillage tool, disk, subsoiler and a brush hog may also be seen and studied on the Kite farm.
The Soil Conservation Service, the Agricultural Extension Service and the Vocational Agricultural Department of Culpeper High School are cooperating with the Ferguson Co. and their local dealer, J. A. Swan, Jr. and Co. in sponsoring the demonstration. Free lunch will be served at the farm through the courtesy of the equipment manufacturer and the local dealer.
The use of power equipment in conservation farming is of much importance in the program carried by the Culpeper Conservation District The Supervisors of the District encourage all farmers to familiarizethemselves with the advances in farm machinery. Many of the soil and water conservation jobs are greatly simplified by using farm equipment that is properly adapted for the job.
