All of which brings us back to the point that this type of cornics certainly don’t do any good.
Even William M. Gaines, who produces a million and a half copies of horror comics every month, says that, although he doesn’t think they do “a bit of harm.”
To us, it seems unfortunate that any publisher is willing to take even the slightest risk of contributing to the nation’s delinquency problem.
But if they don’t agree to do so voluntarily, the government may find it necessary to take measure - es to compel them to print only comics which can be considered wholesome.
And that, definitely, would not be a good thing. Censorship, once it gets a stronghold, can spread. Small beginnings in other countries have lead to control of news and editorial pages.
We can only hope that the comic book publishers will agree to discipline themselves. If they do, it should result in a healthier situation for the country as a whole, and the press in particular.
