1 Killed, 3 Injured In Auto Accident
One person was killed and three injured in an accident on route 211, Amissville, at 8:15 Sunday night, when a run away car crashed into a bridge abutment, hurled at a tree nearby and was completely demolished.
The accident brought ,death to Ervin Jenkins, Jr., 23, c, of Bealton ; Jenkins’ neck was broken in the crash. ,The injured were treated on the scene by Dr. J. Russell Boldridge, and were then rushed to Physicians’ Hospital, Warrenton. Clifton Luther Washington, 27, c, of Midland, the driver of the car, and the son of Charlie Washington, suffered injuries of the chest and back, lacerations of the right arm and legs. His condition is reported as fair. Washington is now receiving treatment in Fort Belvoir Army Hospital.
Miss Elinor Mae Woodson, 21, c, of Calverton, daughter of Lucille Woodson, underwent an amputation operation in the Warrenton Hospital after her right arm was cut off in the accident. She also suffered extreme cerebral concussion, shattering of the right shoulder blade and many cuts and bruises. Her condition is reported by the Warrenton Physicians’ Hospital as extremely serious.
Miss Lucy Mae Wilks, 24, c, of Calverton, daughter of John Woodson Wilks of Emporia, was transferred to Freedman’s Hospital, Washington, D. C. following treatment for compound fracture of the lower left leg, cerebral concussion and minor cuts and bruises. Condition is reported as “fair.” Washington apparently lost control of the car, after he swung around the long curve. The group of Negroes had attended the baseball game at Pine Knot Inn and were probably enroute home.
