soon l erry i ates was sent into competition in the horse shows. In her first big exhibition, at Upperville, America’s oldest horse show, she faced much older and far more experienced ' riders. Nevertheless her horsemanship drew favorable comment from veterans of the shows. —
Previously, in her own class, Terry had won the Small Hunter Championship at the Congressional Horse Show at Burtonsville, Md.; and the Reserve Jr. . Championship at an earlier Fairfax Show.x
Late in ^une, Terry won the blue, one red, one yellow and two whites at the Junior Equitation Show at the Red Barn, Alexandria plus the Junior Championship with its Silver Plate.
In Warrenton’s July Show she won the Junior Championship; taking first in the Junior Corinthian Hunters, and third in Junior Hunters Under Saddle.
Terry tips the scales just above 90 pounds. She’s five feet three inches tall. When away from the show ring she is a slightly reserved girl, but with the poise of a champion. Though horses appear to be her great love, she can chat endlessly on a variety of subjects, not mentioning her four-footed friends. Her Rappahannock friends ymember her as a graceful dancer and an expert swimmer.
Whether she wins r loses this, her biggest race, a.aiss Terry Yates will be ever riding hard , to bring honor to her family and her Rappahannock relatives.
