Japanese Beetles

Are Causing Damage

Japanese beetles are emerging and causing light to severe damage to crops in northeastern Virginia, and are expected to spread over much of the state as the growing season progresses. _

Arthur P. Morris, associate entomologist at VPI, who weekly compiles a survey of insects in Virginia, has these additional observations to make:

Spider mites are damaging alfalfa in Rockingham, and fields should be watched after a cutting for a few days to be sure infestations do not build up to damaging proportions on new growth.

Unusual numbers of leafminers are present on alfalfa in James City, and are causing from light to medium damage on corn in Norfolk. ?
