Nitrogen applied now or in early August will give pastures a much-needed boost for fall grazing or hay.
John F. Shoulders, associate agronomist at VPI, says applying 30 to 50 .pounds of ‘nitrogen to pastures will increase the amount of herbage when rains come, if enough phosphate and potash are present. If the pasture was topdressed last winter or spring with at least 500 pounds per acre of a recommended fertlizer. enou ghphosphate and potash likely will be present so nitrogen alone will give the desired results.
