In many sections of Southern States’ operating territory a devastating drought has played havoc, adding to the problems of farmers already squeezed by lower farm prices and high production costs. In some areas the drought has struck for the third time in as many yeats, making the situation even more disastrous. Prices on Balbo and Abruzzi rye and Domestic Rye Grass have been drastically and arbitrarily reduced—rye from 30 to 36 cents per bushel, and rye grass about $1.75 per 100 pounds. Yet Southern States’ high quality standards have been maintained. These seeds may still be ‘ seeded with the coming of the rains for late fall, early winter and earl/ spring pasture. Pasture is by far the cheapest and one of the very best ieeds. Its use can greatly reduce the amount of hay afcd grain which otherwise would have to be purchased, and thus substantially reduce ieeaing costs.
