A guide was secured for the remainder of the tour, some of the restored buildings in Williamsburg. The first was the goregeous mansion known as the Governor’s Palace. The decorations were of real gold and the royal seal of the king was displayed freely. Such splendor as is found only in story books and kings’ palaces was seen here.
The ladies were greatly interested in the flower arrangements on view throughout the palace made up of only flowers and foliage found in gardens of the 18th century. Even wayside “weeds” were used. s The ball room and gardens were other attractions at this building.
After visiting the Wythe home and gardens and the weaving shop, everyone went to Chawning’s tavern to eat the brunswick stew for which this place is famous. The waiters were dressed in
