This is an excellent time to sell but it is a time for careful consideration as a buyer, especially if thinking of herd expansion.

If you plan to sell hay this year, there’s no advantage to waiting. There’s not much moving in Virginia now, but if a dealer has an order for hay he’s likely to offer Valley' farmers from $23 to $25 a ton for number 2 leafy alfalfa...... that’s generally 2nd or 3rd cutting. Clover and timothy will bring you $17 to $20 in the same area. Richmond buyers are offering slightly higher prices.
