Updike Wins
Glenn Updike won the 4-H Sheep Shearing .Contest held at the Front Royal Beef Cattle Research Station on April 19 with a final score of 92.85 %, the highest score made in the district this year. At the contest held the day before at Stauntoh, a Grove boy had a final score of 92.0. Both will compete in the state shearing contest to be held during Short Course the last week in June when the state champion will be determined.
The Natiaonl Contest will be held in Indiana early in September.
Other Rappahannock 4-H boys attending the Shearing School at Front Royal which preceeded the contest were:; Harrison Powers, Lee Beaty, Billy Sisk, and David Lyne.
Glen has completed his census work and is now available to do custom shearing. Although he has lots of shearing skill he will need more experience to become a state or national winner. Contact him in care of J. B. Updike, Washington, Va.
To Sell Feeder Pigs Tom Lee, Jim Massie and Herbert Barksdale are the first to make nominations from Rappahannock for the Feeder Pig Sale scheduled for May 26th at Culpeper Enterprises. Such sales held elsewhere in the state have done exceptionally well. Several other Rappahannock producers are expected to enter pigs in this sale. If interested let Jim Yates, Jim Massie or me know this week.
C. D. Film Strip Ralph Rowzie will show the new Civil Defense Film Strip at the Amissville Fire Hall April 2S (tonight). Mrs. Cook, principal of Flint Hill iSchool will show the film on Tuesday, May 3rd. Contact her or Mrs. Ru.ssie Miller to learn the hour aind place. This film is very educational. the public is invited to both of the above showings.
