Honors Program
Oxford, Ohio, Not. 21—Nearly 6% of Miami University’s undergraduates are speeding or broadening their college work by participating , in the Miami Honors Program.
Dr. James R. Woodworth, Honors Program director, said its program for the current semester has settled at 882. These students are both volunteers and specially-invited participants, since they generally have been invited to apply on the basis of past performance.
The Miami Honors Program provides opportunity for students of high academic ability and seriousness of purpose to enroll in special courses and seminars devised to provide special challenge for them. Emphasis is placed on independent study, the development o f critical thinking and the development of creative capabilities.
Students in the program are allowed considerable freedom in selecting advanced courses and in engaging irf' individual study projects for credit. They are permitted to enroll in desig-. nated Honors courses and seminars. Students completing graduation requirements and the requirements of the Honors Program will be graduated “with General Honors” and will have notation of this on their diplomas.
Miss Linda Gail Harris, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Harris of Huntly, is participating in the Miami Honors Program.
