Regarding work on the pike (Route 33) with which Mr. Gilj bert was connected, we have this clipping from the Greene j County Record of 1923 from which we quote as follows: ' "The temporary improving of the pike means more travel through town. We understand as soon as Mr. Otto Gilbert gets to the top of the mountain and it becomes known, a great's deal of travel going byRockfish Gap will be diverted this way. We are oil the nearer, better and stralghter- route from the valley to Richmond. "Mr. Otto Gilbert, who is in charge of the temporary improvement _ in the state road between Ruckersville and the top of the mountain, has completed his work as far as Stanardsville, and has made a most excellent Job of it. Mr. Gilbert moved his camp to Mr. E. B. Morris’ above town Saturday, and is now working on toward the top of the mountain In Swift Run Gap."
