By practicing safety rules" home accidents can be prevented. The following kitchen . safety rules are learned by all 4-H girls who study the ■ Foods and Nutrition project. These are things that you probably already know, but ■ perhaps haven’t thought about lately. So, let’s take a i quick review:
1. Put pots and pans on the range with their handles facing in. 2. Store knives in a safe rack, with points protected. 3. Never climb on chairs. Use a step stool. 4. Make sure curtains don’t blow over the range. 5. Handle hot pans with dry pot holders or mitts - never a dish towel. 6. Check handles of utensils to be sure they are securely attached. 7. Remove lid from cooking utensil by lifting the far side first so that steam is directed away from you. 8. Use kitchen tongs when turning fried foods or to remove food from hot water. 9. Wash and dry knives separately - never leaving them in the dishpan or under water. 10. Use a rubber scraper in electric mixer when mixer is operating, never a metal or wooden spoon, fork or spatula. 11. Keep work surfaces orderly during preparation of food.
