Truck Driver Killed
In Crash Sunday
Rappahannock County had its first traffic fatality in 1963 Sunday night when the driver of a tractor-trailer was apparently killed instantly on Route 522 near Blackwater Creek, according to W. A. Buntin, State Police. Carroll Marion Sisk, 37, of' Front Royal, was fatally injured about 10:10p.m. June 9 when the tractor-trailer he was driving ran off the right side of the highway and plunged down a 100 foot bank near Woodville. Dr. John P. Snead,Jr. pronounced iSisk dead at the scene and he was taken to Geest Funeral Parlors in Culpeper by Culpeper Rescue Squad which answered the alarm. Oscar Butler, who lived nearby, told authorities that he saw the vehicle pass his house and the lights went out on the tractor. Mr. Buntin said the trailer was loaded with apple sauce, i vinegar and apple butter and was owned by Triangle Express of Stephenson, Va. Both the 1949 Mack tractor and Freuhoff trailer were completely demolished, a loss of $7,000. Mr. Sisk, a native of Rappahannock formerly living in Sperryville and Flint Hill, is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Sisk, his wife, Mrs. Hazel Tanner Sisk; three daughters, Carolyn Mae, Cathy Virginia and Tina Marie Sisk; and two sisters, Mrs. Frank Comstock and Mrs. Reggie Connor, all of Front Royal. A funeral service was held Wednesday, June 12 at 3 p.m. from the Maddox Funeral Chapel in Front Royal with the iRev. P. B. Pierce offfclifting. Interment was in Prospect Hill Cemetery there.
