Broilers

A weakness in broiler prices can be expected in Virginia during the next several weeks. Several factors contribute to this outlook. Mainly, it is the national supply picture which will range from 2 to 7 per cent above last year. Virginia is below this national average. However, during June of last yeai Virginia-exported a record number of broilers to the Com mon Market. Bee ause of tariffs this export market has been almost eliminated. A heavy supply of red meats is also depressing poultry prices. On the plus side, demand seasonally increases during the summer months, and prices may swing upward by mid July. Present prices are slightly higher than the same time a year ago. Prices last week in Virginia were 1546 cents; North Carolina 14 1/2; Georgia 14; DelMar Va 15 1/2 to 16.
