Steadily and surely Nature1 is setting fire to the Blue i Ridge Mountains of Shenan- j doah National Park as the an- j nual autumn pageant of color | becomes increasingly more impressive as, viewed on the; mountain slopes from Skyline Drive and along the Drive itself. Day by day, splashes of red, orange, and yellow are becoming more apparent, according to Park Superintendent R. Taylor Hoskins, who said that field reports from the three districts within the Park indicate that the previously suggested peak period of the color display - between October 10 and 20 - could be narrowed down in view of rapid changes in the fall hues. Barring an unusual change in weather - which has featured cool nights and warm sunny days - it would now seem likely that those visiting Shenandoah anytime during the week-end of October 12-13, will be well satisfied as far as both viewing and photographing are concerned. It was suggested that the best color will be found from Big Meadows south to U.S. 250, the southernmost boundary of the Park inasmuch as it is quite apparent that this section is ahead of other areas within the Park. However, it is expected that the percentage of color change will become progressively more rapid from day to day in all three districts of the Park.
