One of the new trends in interior design is that people today are asking, “Is it good design?” Through projects and promotions, designers have succeeded in making the public aware that better designed interiors promote a better way of life, according to home economists at Virginia Polytechnic Institute. The most frequently practiced decorating style today is a blend of traditional and contemporary, called ‘'transitional” style. If you don't want your room or house to be a direct replica of the past, but do not want entirely contemporary furnishings, this mixture helps you to enjoy the best of both worlds. There are no 'fixed rules about the mixing of styles, you are free to combine furnishings in any manner. One of the most revolutionary trends in interior design is the movement away from wall to wall carpeting. Extensive use of area rugs in all sizes and many shapes has put new life on the carpet field. Textures, colors and patterns are varied, interesting, and exciting. Do not overlook the importance of fresh flowers and plants in your design scheme. Varieties of house plants are being cultivated for indoor use, and fresh flowers are always beautiful and satisfying in any room. The important thing is that your home is yours and should express your personality and that of your family.
Household Hints To pull threads easily for drawn work or hemstitching, first lubricate them generously with a moist sliver of soap. Run along the edge of a ruler in a straight line, rubbing it well into the fabric. Top griddle cakes with scoops of ice cream, then with spoonful of canned cherry or blueberry pie filling. It makes a good dessert. Cook foods made with milk and cheese at low temperature to prevent toughening, curdling or scorching./ j i
