Farmers Urged To

Return ASC Ballots

Farmers are askedtoreturn ballots promptly to the county ASCS office for their votes to count in the annual ASC community committee elections now taking place.

Ballots containing tne names of farmers nominated for com mittees in the 5 communities fn Rappahannock County were mailed from ASCS on Sept.30, 1963, according to James W. Coates, ASCS county office manager.. They must be returned in ready - addressed postage - free envelopes furnished with the ballots to be included in the vote. Envelopes containing ballots must be post* marked not later than midnight Tuesday, October 15. Mr. Coates said that ballots were mailed to all eligible farmers of record. However, he explained, that any farmer who has not received a ballot and believes that he is eligible to vote should register at the ASCS county office immediate iy. The ASCS manager explained that a farmer is eligible to vote if he takes a part, or is eligible to take part, in any one of the ASCS farm programs, if he is of legal voting 3ge and has interest in a farm as owner, tenant or sharecropped. A person not of legal voting age who is in charge of an entire farm’s operation is eligible to cast a ballot. There is a total of 6 farmers in nomination for the three positions on the 5 community committees. The person receiving the highest number of votes in each community is chairman of the committee. He is also the delegate to a county convention to be held Thursday, October 24, at the ASCS office to elect a county committee.
