Interest To Veteran#
Earlier this year Congress granted a 10% increase in dependency and indemnity compensation to the children and dependent parents of men who died in service or of service connected conditions. Nothing was done at that time for the widows of the service connected dead because their compensation is tied in with the pay of active duty servicemen.
At this time it appears almost certain that the widows of veterans whose deaths resulted from service will realize about a 10% increase across the board. The Senate Finance Committee has passed a House approved measure to increase basic monthly indemnity compensation by $8.00, and the pending military pay raise bill is expected to meet with little opposition. Under present law widows of service connected deceased veterans are paid $112 monthly plus 12% of the basic pay of the deceased. Under the new bills this rate would be increased to $120 plus 12% of the pending military pay increase. Widows of non-service connected dead veterans are not affected in any way. Edward M. Mathews, of the Front Royal Office of the Division of War Veterans’ Claims, is in Washington at the Clerk's Office on 1st and 3rd Monday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and will gladly give more details on this subject or any other matter connected with veteran's affairs.
