Edwin M. Belt, Washington, | was found guilty on two counts j of assault with a deadly wea- j pon and a concealed weapon I charge, heard , in Rappahan-j nock County Court Friday.; Judge Mark Woodward tif Lu- j ray, judge designate, sen-; tenced Belt to a total of 10 months in jail on the assault charges and a fine of $100 on the concealed weapons charge. Belt noted an appeal to the circuit court. Irwin Hackley, prosecutor from Luray,stated that he would ask for felony indictments by a grand jury at the November term of the circuit court. These charges were placed against Belt after he had entered the Courthouse and office of Commonwealth Attorney George H. Davis, Jr., drew a loaded pistor (.25 cal.) and attempted to kill Mr.Davis and Mrs. Belt on the evening of September 19th. Mrs. Belt was seeking legal counsel on divorce at the time of the crime. The offense was committed by Belt in the presence of County Judge, T. Carlyle Lea, Jr., who verified the facts. Circuit Judge R. V. Snead and Coroner J. P. Snead, M.D., testified on behalf of the criminal whose record shows 2 prior felony convictions. Although the Snead Brothers knew nothing about the facts in this particular offense, Judge Snead testified that Belt was his tenant and he considered him safe and sane; and Dr. Snead testified that he did not consider it abnormal for a person to threaten to kill a commonwealth attor ney, — that he knew of many such instances. ,
