Annual Poster

Contest Announced

William E. King, Executive Director of Virginia Forests Inc., 301 E. Franklin St., lUch« mond, Virginia, 23219, has announced the 12th annual Keep Virginia Green Poster contest, A total of $1500 in awards are offered which includes prizes by grades, for High School students and also for the teach, er, or art instructor, whose efforts have brought about the greatest and most effective student participation. Time doesn't permit me to visit in person, our schools and teachers in Rappahannock as I’d prefer doing; however, this seems a simple way to encourage art. You have a program stimulus all set up for you. Just a few years ago I recall several Rappahannock scholars participating and being rewarded for their efforts.. What happened? Last year most every Northern Virginia county had representation in the contest excepting Madison and Rappahannock. Madison will have to answer for herself but I hate not seeing our youngsters not in there pitching. One copy of the announcement was received.. Come by and have a look or give me a ring. Or .. if you prefer a copy, I'm sure Mr. King will gladly send you a copy. Write him. The sizeable portion of our farm woodland devoted to trees makes forestry — better forestry that is, of economic importance to all of us who live, learn and work in Rappahannock.
