Absenteeism in Washington Elementary School prior to the Christmas vacation cost the county school system $2,375. 40. Some of the poor attendance was due to illness but many of the absences were avoidable. Now that school attendance is no longer compulsory and we do not have a visiting teacher to check on the poor attendance it is up to the parents to see that no child is absent unnecessarily.
