Potatoes , If intentions coincide with actualities, growers in the United States will plant 6 per cent less early summer potatoes than a year ago. In Virginia, the intentions are to plant 25,200 acres, down 5 per cent from last year’s acreage of 26,600 and 10 per cent below the 195862 average. The Cobbler potato will be down in acreaage, being replaced byPungos and other varieties. Neighboring North Carolina will plant only 11,000 acres of late spring potatoes as com pared to li,600 last year, and 4,500 acres of early summer, the same as last season. Maryland plans to plant 3,000 acre§ the same as a year ago. Current seed movement is about 10 per cent behind last year’s.
