Robert S. Graves
Robert Strickler Graves, 81, of Syria, prominent businessman and orchardist, died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 1964. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today, Thursday, from Hebron Lutheran Church, Madison County, with burial in the church cemetery. Mr. Graves was founder and president of Shen-Valley Meat Packers, Inc., having been just re-elected last week. He was also chairman of the board of National Bank and Trust Co. of Madison, president of Blue Ridge Fruit Growers Cooperative of Berryville, and a director of Virginia Skyline Co. He was also a director of Gorton’s Frozen Foods of Gloucester, Mass. Mr. Graves was a past president of Virginia State Horticultural Conference Board, and a member of the Virginia Polytechnic Institute Educational Foundation. In 1953 he received the VPI distinguished service award for promotion of agriculture In Virginia.Surviving are his wife, Mrs; Annabel Dye Graves; two sons* Richard R. and Robert S.. Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Clement of Alexandria were visitors during the weekend of Mrs. Dolly Melbourne and Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Priest. Sunday Mr. ^nd Mrs. Stanley Settle and children had as their guests Mr. and Mrs. Reginald Aylor of Madison. Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Stover were visitors Sunday of Mr. Stover’s mother Mrs, Elinor Stover. David and Danny Hitt spent the weekend with their grandparents Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Smith. William Hodge was an over night guest Friday in the Smith home.
