to require hospitalization. Almost everyone at some time is required to care for a sick friend or relative. Usually care is required for only a day or two, perhaps a week. Sometimes a chronic, longterm illness is involved. Do you know how to care for someone who is sick? There are two primary points to remember—Keep clean and keep cheerful. Sanitation is highly important around the sick room. The amateur nurse must remember to wash his or her hands often. Clothing should be laundered frequently and thoroughly. Used towels and cloths should be handled care fully. The ■* sick person needs a cheerful nurse to help the invalid keep up his morale while getting well. A long, solemn face won’t be very good for the patient, Equally important is a third point—Don't, try to diagnose and prescribe. The attendant should obtain careful orders from the doctor, especially with regard to medications. Sometimes c o 1 d p a c k s relieve discomfort, sometimes hot packs are better.
