Rappahannock's 4-H Light Hqrse and Pony Club was reorganized last fall with twelve 4-H boys and girls initially en rolled. Now that spring is approaching out-door programs are in the planning. Adults who have agreed to help with instruction iri equitation, demonstrations or in an advisory capacity include:Mr& Joyce DeBergh, Mrs. Michael Marsh, Mrs. Oscar Lindgren, Mr. Harry Meads and Mr. Brooks Mims. The R. V. Sneads have grant, ed permission to erect a show and training ring on their property at the old Horse Show Grounds. Mrs. Alice Wood has agreed to furnish a light dozer for the grading to be supervised by Mr. W. C. Camp bell. This work will get underway as soon as soil conditions are favorable. While there were several offers for use of grounds, all of which . were gracious, the Snead property was chosen because of its location and other facilities. First out-door plans include demonstrations and instruction in mounting and dismounting including both English and Western methods, Mrs. Lindgren will also give a demonstration of her dressage horse. At this first get-together additional club members will be enrolled (10 to 19 years of age inclusive). Those present will be asked to complete a questionalre in order that Instructors may learn: Just how much experience members have had with horses (or ponies) and horsemanship; whether they are interested in learning: showmanship, hunting, dressage, jumping, hacking, tr ial riding, barrel races, calf roping, etc. Subsequently members will be divided into smaller groups and instructed^ Equitation is but a pan of the project; other phases include care and feeding of the horse stable management, etc. Ultimately shows and contests for club members will be held on local district and state levels. Also in process of development are: a Horseman ship Clinic and a Horse Show to be held near Warrenton.
