Fred Lee Thomas a 28 yearold negro, drowned Saturday, July 18 in a pond on the farm of William M. Carrigan near Washington. Thomas, who was Employed by Mr. Carrigan, was swimming with several other friends when the accident occurredraccording to a statement from Sheriff C. K. Estes. The sheriff’s department received the call at 7:30 p. m. arid upon investigating they found that Thomas had swum across the pond and started back when he went down without a cry for help. The Culpeper Farm Show will sponsor the Southeastern Rodeo Association's Championship Rodeo on August 1st and 2nd at the Culpeper Agricultural Enterprises Grounds, 4 miles south of Culpeper on Rt. 29. The Rodeo will begin at 6:00 p.m. (D.S.T.) on August 1st and at 2:20 p. m. (D.S.T.) on August 2nd. This championship Rodeo will draw contestants from most of the states in the southeast to com pete in bareback bronc riding, saddle bronc riding, calf roping, barrel racing, steer wrestling, and Brahma bull riding. All western riders will be invited to bring their horses to the rodeo and ride in the grand entry. The Rodeo is one of the roughest American sports and it grew out of the wildest era of the west.
