The Oriental Band of Khedive Temple A.A.O.N.M.S. was organized in February 1953 and is made up of Nobles from the Newport News, Hampton and York county area. The membership consists of 35 sheiks. Among many other places, the Band has participated in National Shrine Convention Parades in Chicago, Atlantic CitY Miami Beach, and Toronto.
Sheik Dick Price is Past President of the Association of Shrine Oriental Bands which includes all the Shrine Temples in North America. Also Sheik Raymond L. Weodall is the Assistant Rabban of Khedive Temple and will become its Illustrious Potentate in 1966.®Sheik Wallace Hicks, the Probation Officer for the City of Hampton, is the 3rd. Vice President of The Virginia State Fireman's Association and served as the SecretaryTreasurer for 16 years. Many of the Sheiks have either held or are now holding offices in their respective Masonic Lodge, The Scottish Rite Consistory and York Rite bodies as well as appointive offices in the Temple. The officers of the Band are: Director, James P. Williams; Musical Director, O. Reid Hudson; Sec. retary-Treasurer, Ceylon J. Byrd; and Drum Major, William A. Ballard. The Drum Major is considered to be one of the best and most outstanding in this country by Nobles and people from all sections.
